What does API 20ne test for?
Table of Contents
This API-20E test strip (from bioMerieux, Inc.) is used to identify the enteric gram negative rods (although API makes a variety of other test strips for yeast, Staph, anaerobes, etc.) 20 separate test compartments are on the strip, all dehydrated. A bacterial suspension is used to rehydrate each of the wells.
Can Gram-negative oxidase positive bacteria be identified with the API 20E system?
The API 20E system was evaluated on isolates from animals of aerobic nonfermentative and cytochrome oxidase positive Gram-negative rods. An accuracy of identification of 80% (214/268 isolates) was achieved for those organisms included in the 1976-1977 API profile index.
Is Pseudomonas indole positive?
Pseudomonas gives negative Voges Proskauer, indole and methyl red tests, but a positive catalase test.
What is API 10s strip?
API® strips are established as the reference technique worldwide: on top of routine use, it is also used to assess the performance of other identification products. API® products have led to the identification of new bacterial species (e.g.: within the Staphylococcus and Streptococcus genera)
How does an Enterotube work?
The Enterotube™ II is inoculated by touching the wire to a well isolated colony from a Petri plate. The wire is pulled and rotated from the other end to inoculate all the compartments and pushed all the way back in to reinoculate the compartments.
Is Pseudomonas aeruginosa Gram positive?
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative rod measuring 0.5 to 0.8 μm by 1.5 to 3.0 μm.
Is P. aeruginosa citrate positive?
P. aeruginosa can be identified biochemically as having indophenol oxidase-positive, citrate-positive, and l-arginine dehydrolase-positive activity.
Which of the following is considered a negative result for an oxidase test?
Microorganisms are oxidase negative if the color does not change or it takes longer than 2 minutes.
How is API 20E test strip carried out?
Add sterile oil into the ADH, LDC, ODC, H2S and URE compartments. Put some drops of water in the tray and put the API Test strip and close the tray. Mark the tray with identification number (Patient ID or Organism ID), date and your initials. Incubate the tray at 37oC for 18 to 24 hours.
