Is the FE exam worth taking?
In itself, the FE/EIT is not worth a whole lot. However, I tell all of the engineers I mentor to take it as soon as they are eligible. The key here is that the PE license is tremendously valuable in many areas of engineering. You never know where you will end up so it is best to take the FE/EIT so you are prepared.
What should I do the day before the FE exam?
If possible, take the day before the examination off from work to relax. Do not cram the last night before your FE exam. Remember that at this point, you have done all you possibly could for your FE exam review. A good prior night’s sleep is the best way to start the examination.

Is the FE exam open book?
The FE Exam is closed book because it’s a computer-based test. You cannot bring any books into the testing center. You do, however, get to access the electronic version of the 494-page Reference Handbook. It includes everything you’ll need to pass the FE Exam, plus it’s searchable, too!
Is the FE exam difficult?
A 54% pass rate is a hard exam, the hardest among the FE exams. The FE Mechanical and FE Environmental exams now have the highest pass rate at 66% (see our chart in the next section below), and a 34% failure rate is something we consider very demanding.
