While Anthony Hopkins may always be the better known of the two Dr. Lecters for all time, Mads Mikkelsen’s portrayal simply feels more real. This isn’t to say anything negative of Hopkins’ version; he’s absolutely incredible.

Why does Hannibal feed Paul his own brain?
The reasoning being that it would save on the budget. Unfortunately for him, Liotta kept goofing up – forgetting his lines and so on – so that the scene had to be redone several times. The bit where Lecter feeds him his own brains was completely unscripted. Hannibal eats people because he can see no reason not to.
