ACTIQ (oral transmucosal fentanyl citrate) is indicated for the management of breakthrough pain in cancer patients 16 years of age and older who are already receiving and who are tolerant to around-the-clock opioid therapy for their underlying persistent cancer pain.

How long does Actiq take to work?
3. To get the most effective relief, finish the Actiq completely in 15 minutes. If you finish it too quickly, you will swallow more of the medicine and get less relief of your breakthrough pain.
How do you take Actiq?
Place Actiq in your mouth between your cheeks and gums. Using the handle, move it around in your mouth especially along your cheeks. Twirl the handle often. You may drink some water before using Actiq, to help with taking the product but you should not drink or eat anything while using Actiq.
Can you overdose on Actiq?
ACTIQ could be fatal to individuals for whom it is not prescribed and for those who are not opioid-tolerant. Accidental ingestion of even one dose of ACTIQ, especially by children, can result in respiratory depression and death due to an overdose of fentanyl [see Warnings and Precautions (5.1, 5.2)].
