Anytime you copy and paste verbatim from a source and do not give the source credit it is plagiarism. If you do copy and paste a passage word for word, you must put the information in quotations (i.e. ” “) marks and give credit to the author. However, you do not want to fill your paper with direct quotations.

What happens if you accidentally plagiarize?
Accidental plagiarism is usually the result of being rushed, unorganized, or uninformed about the citation and research process. Whether it’s an accident or an intentional act of plagiarism, the consequences are essentially the same. It can result in a reprimand, failed grade, failed course, or even worse.
Can I copy word for word if I cite?
It can be. If you copy exact language from a source (usually more than three words) and fail to use quotation marks, this IS plagiarism, even if you add the citation. If you use someone else’s ideas throughout your paper, and you simply list that person as a source at the end of your paper, this IS plagiarism.
